Special: The Pre Years
Jim Forbes (from Behind the Music) narrates about Marla and Tracy, the TV couple, even her two brothers and his four brothers (Rodney and Chuck are not present). This is the last special.
In 1982, Tracy and Joe formed a band called the Stevens Boone Band with four of five Stevens brothers, Taylor, Terry, Trevor and Travis. Tracy and Joe worked with the oldest Stevens brother Truett at the tire shop for days. Joe reveals that he worked at the tire shop for six days, and a night concert for both of them. That same year, Joe's first wife Brenda of one year divorced him because she did not like music.
On July 15, 1986, Joe met Janis Knight, a model and singer who sang Paranoid by Black Sabbath at the bar. On Nov. 1, Tracy met Marla at the bar while she was a waitress. Marla reveals that the chubby guy got a left foot as she was tripping, and she asked Tracy for a date, and he said yes. Joe, Tracy and the Stevens Brothers toured with Keith Whitley, Vern Gosdin, George Jones and the Gatlin Brothers for two years straight as Joe played Steve Gatlin's bass while Steve was singing. Joe also played harmonica.
On June 20, 1987, Joe and Janis were married. Elton broke up with his childhood sweetheart Sandy, whose classmate Delphine Noone married Marla's brother Ward. On July 12, Delphine died of poison while trapping a raccoon. The next month, Ward met Tonta Stevens, whose first marriage failed and had two twin children Nate and Natalie.
On Feb. 6, 1988, Tracy and Marla were married. In August, Marla had a severe nausea problem while she was pregnant with their first child. On Feb. 12, 1989, Tracy lost to a woman who played pinball with him, her name is Patty, and she did not meet Elton until the next year. Eleven days later, Tracy and Marla had a son, Reid Louis. On May 9, Tracy was frustrated when Keith Whitley passed away while Joe and Janis decided to divorce.
In July, Tracy sang a love song for Marla before the show started. On Aug. 28, Joe and Janis had finalized the divorce, and on Sept. 9, Joe, Elton, Tracy, Chuck and Rodney's father passed away from a heart attack.
On Jan. 20, 1990, Ward married Tonta as Tracy sang "The Vows Go Unbroken" with Joe on guitar. In August, the tire shop filed for bankruptcy, and Chuck brought a school friend Tom to visit Tracy and Joe. On Nov. 24, Elton and Patty, who beat Tracy for the pinball game, were married.
In February 1991, Tracy was hired at Jack's Auto Shop, and Joe is not. Joe decided to do it on his own. Marla's brother Jeff was already working at Jack's since a year prior. The Stevens Boone Band was disbanded for life. On Elton and Patty's first anniversary, Marla was pregnant again.
On Feb. 1, 1992, Jeff and his high school sweetheart Kim were married, and Tracy and Marla sang "Til a Tear Becomes a Rose" with Joe on guitar. Jack is no longer a boss, and Tracy is the boss and changed to Tracy's Auto Shop, as it stands today, and Ward was hired. Two months later, Tracy was injured in a motorcycle accident. A month later, Tracy and Marla had a daughter Cheyenne Michele on May 14. After Cheyenne was born, Tracy had a beard. Marla reveals that Cheyenne was clingy before Tracy shaved his beard. Tracy loves to hold her, singing a lullaby at the same time.
Right now, Tracy and Joe were still playing two guitars and Tracy sang the Keith Whitley song "When You Say Nothing At All." Rodney and Chuck are moving away as of now, and Joe and Elton were still working at Tracy's Auto Shop. Ward and Tonta were expecting their second child after the twins graduated from high school, and Jeb will be a big brother, and Jeff and Kim had a daughter Paige. Reid was interviewed for being Superman, and Cheyenne's favorite moments are when she sang a song with Tracy before and after heading to bed, and taught her to play a guitar. Cheyenne is now independent. Marla loves to swap with Patty at Tracy's Auto Shop before and after taking her kids to school. Tracy and Marla were a fantastic couple.
